He graduated from the Diplomatic and Consular Seminary at the National University of Cuba, graduating on December 9, 1925. He belonged to the respective College of Graduates and was an Official of the Secretary of Justice in which he served from 1916 to 1928. He was named Chancellor of the Foreign Service of the Republic of Cuba on November 2, 1928, and was named Viceconsul on March 9, 1934. He was named General Consul on July 1, 1952. He retired from service on April 26, 1960.

Mr. Nieto Cortadellas belonged to the now extinct Academy of Cuban History and to the Cuban Institute of Genealogy and Heraldry, of which he was an honorary President and one of its founders, as well as the now extinct Pan-American Colombista Society. He belonged to the Brazilian Genealogical Institute of Sao-Paulo; the Mexican Academy of Genealogy and Heraldry; Academy of Fine Arts and Historical Sciences
of Toledo; the Guatemalan Academy of Genealogical Studies; the Argentine Institute of Genealogical Sciences; the Peruvian Institute of Genealogical Research; the Chilean Institute of Genealogical Research, and also belonging to that of Palma de Mallorca; the Society of Friends of Compostela (Nayarit); the Society of Antique Dealers of Guadalajara (Jalisco); the Bolivian Society of the Argentine Republic; honorary member of the Society for Heraldic-Geneological Studies “Hernan Cortes” of Guadalajara (Jalisco.) He was a Technical Advisor to the National Archive of Cuba, and also belonged to several other entities dedicated to these studies.
