These are official lists of naturalizations granted and, generally, were published monthly with the names approved the previous month in the Official Gazette of the State Secretariat of Cuba.
They usually indicate the full name, country of origin, and, in some cases, the parents’ names or additional details useful for genealogy.
In 1944, the Citizenship Regulation formalized the terminology: “Certificate of Nationality” (for those born Cuban) and “Carta de Ciudadanía” (for naturalized citizens).
CGC member, Giselle Gonzalez Garcia, reviewed the gazettes available from 1904 through 1939. She combined them into PDFs. We have posted these on our Journals Page under our Books category.
This Gazette is also available through various online sources like the Digital Library of Caribbean, Hathi Trust and Google Books.
Our warmest and sincere thanks to Giselle for sharing her work with us!
