Buque

Barco con cubierta que, por su tamaño, solidez y fuerza, es adecuado para navegaciones o empresas marítimas de importancia.

Cuge

Los cuges eran palos fuertes de alrededor de cuatro varas castellanas de largo, en el que se iban colocando las hojas, de dos en dos, atándolas por las cabezas con la vena hacia arriba. No se debía exceder de 150 hojas por cuge, para que el tabaco no se oprimiera y perdiera su rancio y calidad. **

Cuge

Strong sticks, about 12 feet long, where the tobacco leaves were placed. The leaves were placed, two by two, tied at the top with the veins upwards. There should have been no more that 150 leaves per stick so that the tabacco leaf would not be squeezed or damaged and its quality compromised. ##

** La vara era una unidad de longitud española antigua que equivalía a 33 pulgadas. Según la longitud de la pulgada (en cada región podía tener un valor diferente) la vara podía medir entre 75 y 92 centímetros. La vara castellana, la más extendida, medía 83,59 cm, y estaba dividida en dos codos o en cuatro palmos. En tiempos modernos le asignamos una medida de 3 pies a cada vara.

 

## The "vara" was an old Spanish unit of length that was equivalent to 33 inches. According to the length of the inch (in each region it could have had a different value) the "vara" could measure between 75 and 92 centimeters. The "vara castellana", the most extended, measured 83.59 cm, and was divided into four handspans. In modern times, the "vara castellana" is usually assigned the measurement of 3 feet.
