Santo Angel Custodio Church

Iglesia del Santo Angel Custodio

La Habana, Cuba

Originally erected in 1630 by Bishop Diego Avelino de Compostela. The tower and whole of the front and back of the nave were destroyed by the hurricane of 1846. These were rebuilt and notably altered by the Bishop Jacinto Maria Martinez to the gothic style that is seen today. The church is located on the corner of Compostela and Cuarteles Streets on one of the few hills of the city, at first called Peña Pobre and then Loma del Angel.
