The Archive of the Royal Chancery of Valladolid is an archive under the Ministry of Culture of Spain , and is located in the city of Valladolid ( Castile and Leon ). It contains the documentation generated by the Real Audiencia and Chancellery of Valladolid ( 1371 - 1834 ), the Regional Court of Valladolid (1834 - 1989 ) and other contemporary legal institutions based in the city. |

The Archivo General de Indias in Seville was established in 1785 at the behest of King Carlos III , with the aim of centralizing in one place the documents relating to the administration of the Spanish colonies had been dispersed over several archives: Simancas , Cadiz and Seville .
The archive holds about 43,000 bundles , with some 80 million pages and 8,000 maps and drawings that come mainly from agencies responsible for the administration of the colonies. |
